Development of lay health advisor program for Hispanics in rural mountain community.

"The Listening Project enabled us to do the community assessment needed to develop our Health for Hispanics initiative here in Yancey County. Through it we found community leadership, identified the primary issues and needs in the Hispanic community, and we have developed our Community Lay Educator program, which addresses basic social, health and economic survival issues and is now the primary link between the Hispanic and Anglo communities here. The county realizes the value of our work and has given us office space for our program."
